Ixodes ticks, encephalitis and vaccination

If you are planning a trip to the Czech Republic, you should consider vaccination against ticks (ixodes) now.

Some tick bites may cause paralysis, tick typhus and severe allergic reactions.

About 5000 people were infected by ticks (ixodes) last year according to data from the National Institute of Public Health.

Over 90 percent of the territory of the Czech Republic is considered to be the area with an increased number of infected ticks (ixodes). The highest number of illnesses reported each year South Bohemia, Vysočina and Brno. Season diseases from ticks begin around May.

It is the best time for vaccination to have enough time to create antibodies.
